Arnolds Park Amusement Park

Arnolds Park began its development in 1886 with a large slide that plunged into West Lake Okoboji. Very quickly, Arnolds Park became a little "Coney Island" where people could enjoy the amusement park, the swimming beach and cool breezes off the lake.

Chuck Long purchased and reoped the classic park in 1989. The park witnessed a celebrated new life, yet one without any financial gain. Mr. Long received an attractive offer in 1999 to buy the park for an expansive condo develpment. There was strong sentiment to preserve the oldest amusement park west of the Mississippi. The Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum took the leadership role in the movement to "Save the Park." Support for there agenda turned into action as children brought their piggy banks to donate their savings for their beloved park. People bought t-shirts and buttons to raise the needed $5.5 million. Donations came from several thousand constributors of $1000 or less.

Many large donations came from generous individuals, corporations, foundations, and local governments, as well as grants from the state of Iowa and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The park was saved and more than $7.6 million was raised.

Today, Arnolds Park guests can enjoy more than 30 rides and attractions, including the 63´ Ferris wheel, the famous "Legend" rollercoaster and the areas fastest go-karts. New for 2001 is "Boji Falls," a long flume with a 94´ drop into water. Youngsters and the young at heart come to Arnolds Park to enjoy the rides, entertainment, and carnival games, shops and food stands. The beach is once again a place of family fun hosting, swimmers and sun bathers. There is ample dock space for coming by water to this playland.

Experience one of the parks popular Roof Garden concerts featuring big–name acts, with a unique and beautiful backdrop provided by lights reflecting off of West Lake Okoboji.
